Motorola V.box (V100) is announced in 2000
Design
The Motorola V.box (V100) is a compact clamshell phone. Measures 83 x 44 x 25 mm in size and weighing 83 grams, it is light and feels very slender despite its size. The black and white display is ideal for text, messages and simple pictures like logos and picture massages. The display resolution 126 x 64 pixel is not very high but is normal for small phone like this.
The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker. There is nice LEDs which notify users of new messages, active network and missed calls. This is not common for all Motorola handsets and is not necessary to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting.
Ergonomics
The V.box (V100) lies well in ones hand.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent Motorola handsets. The plastic keypad has very limited key travel and jiggles independently of the phone, with the shrunken center keys for no apparent reason, make the phone harder to dial than necessary. The most notable trait of the V.box (V100) is of course the way in which it expands from an ordinary mobile phone with a numeric keypad to a fully fledged messaging device with a QWERTY keyboard.
Features
Dual band 900/1800 MHz connectivity isn't all the Motorola V.box (V100) has to offer: there's also support for SMS, .and spacious phone book..
Performance
Audio quality on the V.box (V100) was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 600 mAh Li-ion battery is rated for 3.5 hours talk time or 120 hours standby, which is quite low given the battery's theoretical capacity. Charge time is about 90 minutes.
Availability
The Motorola V.box (V100) is now available throughout Europe in some language version.
Conclusion
Motorola's V.box (V100) is yet another model in a range of phones from experienced users from Motorola. A new compact design and a reduced sized battery - which avoids rendering a negative impact on battery life - ensures a thin and light phone which is ergonomically comfortable. |
