Motorola V220 is announced in 2004

Design

The Motorola V220 is a compact clamshell phone. Measures 83 x 45 x 22 mm in size and weighing 80 grams, it is light and feels very slender despite its size. The 16 bit - color display which is a little milky, dim and uneven, as well as having lower resolution than usual. The display resolution 128 x 128 pixel which is standart resolution for more mobile phones.

The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker, while on the other side we find a dedicated camera button. There is nice LEDs which notify users of new messages, active network and missed calls. This is not common for all Motorola handsets and is not necessary to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting.

Ergonomics

The V220 lies well in ones hand.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent Motorola handsets. The plastic keypad has very limited key travel and jiggles independently of the phone, with the shrunken center keys for no apparent reason, make the phone harder to dial than necessary. And last, but not least, a five-way navigation buttons centered below the display.

Features

In the WAN department, the V220 boasts healthy support for Tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz, as well as GPRS, SMS, and a range of applications such as WAP , Java MIDP 2.0, FAX/Modem, all of which laptop and handheld users will be pleased to learn is a breeze to utilize either by means of GPRS support is the fastest way to download files with your mobile, and spacious phone book.

As previously mentioned, the V220 is also equipped with a 0.3 megapixel camera support for picture-taking and when it comes to storage the V220 offers 1 MB which is dynamically shared between images and J2ME applications.

Performance

Audio quality on the V220 was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 820 mAh Li-ion battery is rated for 4 hours talk time or 150 hours standby, which is quite low given the battery's theoretical capacity. Charge time is about 122 minutes.

Availability

The Motorola V220 is now available throughout Europe in some language version.

Conclusion

Motorola's V220 is yet another model in a range of phones from experienced users from Motorola. A new compact design and a reduced sized battery - which avoids rendering a negative impact on battery life - ensures a thin and light phone which is ergonomically comfortable.
