Nokia 5100 is announced in 2003
Design
The latter quickly became immensely popular and also the manufacturer's flagship, but with the advent of the 5100, Nokia has finally entrenched itself as an important player in the market for experienced users, the Nokia 5100 is slender and not very compact handset at 108 x 46 x 22 mm and 104 grams. The 4096-color display is dim, not very bright and crisp, but is a far step above the very dim 256-color versions on even the most recent Nokia models. The display resolution 128 x 128 pixel which is standart resolution for more mobile phones.
The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker. Lacking LEDs of any kind, however, the display - combined with vibration and audible alerts - is the 5100's only way of notifying users of new messages and missed calls. This is common for all Nokia handsets, requiring users to inconveniently have to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting rather than just glance at it.
Ergonomics
The 5100 is comfortable to hold and lies well in ones hand.A numerical keypad placed below offers appropriately-spaced keys and are pleasantly comfortable in use.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent Nokia handsets. The plastic keypad has good placed keys, with the shrunken center keys for no apparent reason, make the phone harder to dial than necessary.Unfortunately, the keypad of the Nokia 5100 emits excess noise, but on the bright side its keys have been comfortably spaced and sized. We're not entirely happy with the design of the navigational pad and its adjacent buttons, however, as distinguishing between these less easy than it ought to be.And last, but not least, a four-way navigation buttons centered below the display.
Features
In the WAN department, the 5100 boasts healthy support for Tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz, as well as HSCSD, GPRS, SMS, and a range of applications such as WAP , Java MIDP 1.0, 16-channels polyphony, FAX/Modem, Loud Speaker, all of which laptop and handheld users will be pleased to learn is a breeze to utilize either by means of infrared old wireless device,GPRS support is the fastest way to download files with your mobile, HSCSD support gives more speed when you browse with your mobile browser, and spacious phone book.
As previously mentioned, the 5100 is also equipped with . The phone incidentally also offers up an integrated FM radio.
Performance
Audio quality on the 5100 was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 720 mAh Li-ion battery is rated for 5 hours talk time or 300 hours standby, which is very good for battery's theoretical capacity.Charge time is about 108 minutes.
Availability
The Nokia 5100 is now available throughout Europe in some language version.
Conclusion
Nokia 5100 is a beautiful phone to hold and use, and it's quickly won our hearts. The typical Nokia design flair is present in abundance, with all the requisite consumer features to back it up.But love doesn't notice such little flaws. |
