Panasonic GD92 is announced in 2000

Design

Having gained fresh wind in its sails over the course of the past year or so, Panasonic has certainly made its mark on phone sale hit lists recently, the Panasonic GD92 is a very slender and compact handset at 119 x 41 x 16 mm and 77 grams. The black and white display is ideal for text, messages and simple pictures like logos and picture massages. The display resolution 96 x 96 pixel is not very high but is normal for low class phone.

The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker.
Lacking LEDs of any kind, however, the display - combined with vibration and audible alerts - is the GD92's only way of notifying users of new messages and missed calls. This is common for all Panasonic handsets, requiring users to inconveniently have to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting rather than just glance at it.

Ergonomics

The GD92 lies well in ones hand.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent Panasonic handsets. The plastic keypad has good placed keys, with the shrunken center keys for no apparent reason, make the phone harder to dial than necessary.Unfortunately, the keypad of the Panasonic GD92 emits excess noise, but on the bright side its keys have been comfortably spaced and sized. We're not entirely happy with the design of the navigational pad and its adjacent buttons, however, as distinguishing between these less easy than it ought to be.And last, but not least, a four-way navigation buttons centered below the display.

Features

Dual band 900/1800 MHz connectivity isn't all the Panasonic GD92 has to offer: there's also support for SMS, .and spacious phone book..

Performance

Audio quality on the GD92 was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 650 mAh Li-ion battery is rated for 160 hours talk time or 3 hours standby, which is quite low given the battery's theoretical capacity. Charge time is about 97 minutes.

Availability

The Panasonic GD92 is now available throughout Europe in some language version.

Conclusion

Panasonic's GD92 is yet another model in a range of phones from experienced users from Panasonic. A new compact design and a reduced sized battery - which avoids rendering a negative impact on battery life - ensures a thin and light phone which is ergonomically comfortable.
