Philips 630 is announced in 2003
Design
The Philips 630 is a compact clamshell phone. Measures 83 x 43 x 21 mm in size and weighing 78 grams, it is light and feels very slender despite its size.A secound 96 x 32 pixel, 2 display dominates the front cover, and although not the clearest external display we've seen it is still quite functional. The 4096-color display is dim, not very bright and crisp, but is a far step above the very dim 256-color versions on even the most recent Philips models. The display resolution 128 x 128 pixel which is standart resolution for more mobile phones.
The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker. Lacking LEDs of any kind, however, the display - combined with vibration and audible alerts - is the 630's only way of notifying users of new messages and missed calls. This is common for all Philips handsets, requiring users to inconveniently have to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting rather than just glance at it.
Ergonomics
The 630 lies well in ones hand.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent Philips handsets. The plastic keypad has very limited key travel and jiggles independently of the phone, with the shrunken center keys for no apparent reason, make the phone harder to dial than necessary. And last, but not least, a five-way navigation buttons centered below the display.
Features
Dual band 900/1800 MHz connectivity isn't all the Philips 630 has to offer: there's also support for GPRS, SMS, and a range of applications such as WAP , 32-channels polyphony, FAX/Modem, all of which laptop and handheld users will be pleased to learn is a breeze to utilize either by means of GPRS support is the fastest way to download files with your mobile, and spacious phone book.
As previously mentioned, the 630 is also equipped with . The phone incidentally also offers up an integrated FM radio.
Performance
Audio quality on the 630 was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 650 mAh Li-ion battery is rated for 2.4 hours talk time or 200 hours standby, which is quite low given the battery's theoretical capacity. Charge time is about 97 minutes.
Availability
The Philips 630 is now available throughout Europe in some language version.
Conclusion
Philips's 630 is yet another model in a range of phones from experienced users from Philips. A new compact design and a reduced sized battery - which avoids rendering a negative impact on battery life - ensures a thin and light phone which is ergonomically comfortable. |
