Philips 639 is announced in 2004

Design

The Philips 639 is a compact clamshell phone. Measures 79 x 43 x 19 mm in size and weighing 75 grams, it is light and feels very slender despite its size. The 16 bit - color display which is a little milky, dim and uneven, as well as having lower resolution than usual. The display resolution 128 x 128 pixel which is standart resolution for more mobile phones.

The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker. There is nice LEDs which notify users of new messages, active network and missed calls. This is not common for all Philips handsets and is not necessary to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting.

Ergonomics

The 639 lies well in ones hand.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent Philips handsets. The plastic keypad has very limited key travel and jiggles independently of the phone, with the shrunken center keys for no apparent reason, make the phone harder to dial than necessary. And last, but not least, a five-way navigation buttons centered below the display.

Features

Dual band 900/1800 MHz connectivity isn't all the Philips 639 has to offer: there's also support for GPRS, SMS, and a range of applications such as WAP , Java MIDP 2.0, voice commands, all of which laptop and handheld users will be pleased to learn is a breeze to utilize either by means of GPRS support is the fastest way to download files with your mobile, and spacious phone book..

Performance

Audio quality on the 639 was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 850 mAh Li-ion battery is rated for 4 hours talk time or 400 hours standby, which is very good for battery's theoretical capacity.Charge time is about 127 minutes.

Availability

The Philips 639 is now available throughout Europe in some language version.

Conclusion

Philips's 639 is yet another model in a range of phones from experienced users from Philips. A new compact design and a reduced sized battery - which avoids rendering a negative impact on battery life - ensures a thin and light phone which is ergonomically comfortable.
