Samsung A300 is announced in 2001
Design
The Samsung A300 is a compact clamshell phone. Measures 81 x 42 x 22 mm in size and weighing 83 grams, it is light and feels very slender despite its size.A secound 64 x 32 pixel, 2 display dominates the front cover, and although not the clearest external display we've seen it is still quite functional. The black and white display is ideal for text, messages and simple pictures like logos and picture massages. The display resolution 101 x 80 pixel is not very high but is normal for small phone like this.
The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker. There is nice LEDs which notify users of new messages, active network and missed calls. This is not common for all Samsung handsets and is not necessary to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting.
Ergonomics
The A300 lies well in ones hand.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent Samsung handsets. The plastic keypad has very limited key travel and jiggles independently of the phone, with the shrunken center keys for no apparent reason, make the phone harder to dial than necessary. And last, but not least, a four-way navigation buttons centered below the display.
Features
Dual band 900/1800 MHz connectivity isn't all the Samsung A300 has to offer: there's also support for SMS, and a range of applications such as WAP , FAX/Modem, all of which laptop and handheld users will be pleased to learn is a breeze to utilize either by means of infrared old wireless device, and spacious phone book..
Performance
Audio quality on the A300 was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 570 mAh Li-ion battery is rated for 2.3 hours talk time or 50 hours standby, which is quite low given the battery's theoretical capacity. Charge time is about 85 minutes.
Availability
The Samsung A300 is now available throughout Europe in some language version.
Conclusion
Samsung's A300 is yet another model in a range of phones from experienced users from Samsung. A new compact design and a reduced sized battery - which avoids rendering a negative impact on battery life - ensures a thin and light phone which is ergonomically comfortable. |
