Sharp SH2101V is announced in 2003
Design
Sharp's SH2101V is a typical clamshell design. Measures 137 x 98 x 25 mm in size and weighing 280 grams, it is not light but feels very slender despite its size.A secound 32 x 64 pixel, 2 Mono display dominates the front cover, and although not the clearest external display we've seen it is still quite functional.A perfectly adequate 65,000-color display is bright and crisp, and is a far step above the dim 4096-color versions on even the most recent Sharp models. The display resolution 320 x 240 pixel ideal for small and smart phone.
The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker, while on the other side we find a dedicated camera button. Lacking LEDs of any kind, however, the display - combined with vibration and audible alerts - is the SH2101V's only way of notifying users of new messages and missed calls. This is common for all Sharp handsets, requiring users to inconveniently have to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting rather than just glance at it.
Ergonomics
The SH2101V is not comfortable for hold in ones hand because it is too wide.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent Sharp handsets. The plastic keypad has very limited key travel and jiggles independently of the phone, giving it a cheap feel while oddly designed buttons, with the comfortable center keys, make the phone easer to dial. The most notable trait of the SH2101V is of course the way in which it expands from an ordinary mobile phone with a numeric keypad to a fully fledged messaging device with a QWERTY keyboard.
Features
Dual band 900/1800 MHz connectivity isn't all the Sharp SH2101V has to offer: there's also support for SMS, and a range of applications such as Email client, Java MIDP 1.0, voice commands, a voice recorder, all of which laptop and handheld users will be pleased to learn is a breeze to utilize either by means of and spacious phone book.
As previously mentioned, the SH2101V is also equipped with a 0.3 megapixel camera support for picture-taking and when it comes to storage the SH2101V offers 10 MB which is dynamically shared between images and J2ME applications. The SH2101V also comes with an Secure Digital (SD) and expansion slot located under its battery,a 16-128 MB card comes bundled in the sales package, more space for images audio and video files, less time for PC and communication cable for updating internal memory,
Performance
Audio quality on the SH2101V was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 950 mAh Li-ion battery is rated for 1.3 hours talk time or 60 hours standby, which is quite low given the battery's theoretical capacity. Charge time is about 142 minutes.
Availability
The Sharp SH2101V is now available throughout Europe in some language version.
Conclusion
Sharp SH2101V is a beautiful phone to hold and use, and it's quickly won our hearts. The typical Sharp design flair is present in abundance, with all the requisite consumer features to back it up.But love doesn't notice such little flaws. |
