Siemens SL45 is announced in 2000

Design

Having gained fresh wind in its sails over the course of the past year or so, Siemens has certainly made its mark on phone sale hit lists recently, the Siemens SL45 is a very slender and compact handset at 105 x 42 x 17 mm and 88 grams. The black and white display is ideal for text, messages and simple pictures like logos and picture massages. The display resolution 101 x 80 pixel is not very high but is normal for low class phone.

The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker.
Lacking LEDs of any kind, however, the display - combined with vibration and audible alerts - is the SL45's only way of notifying users of new messages and missed calls. This is common for all Siemens handsets, requiring users to inconveniently have to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting rather than just glance at it.

Ergonomics

The SL45 lies well in ones hand.A numerical keypad placed below offers appropriately-spaced keys and are pleasantly comfortable in use.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent Siemens handsets. The plastic keypad has good placed keys, with the shrunken center keys for no apparent reason, make the phone harder to dial than necessary.Unfortunately, the keypad of the Siemens SL45 emits excess noise, but on the bright side its keys have been comfortably spaced and sized. We're not entirely happy with the design of the navigational pad and its adjacent buttons, however, as distinguishing between these less easy than it ought to be.And last, but not least, a four-way navigation buttons centered below the display.

Features

Dual band 900/1800 MHz connectivity isn't all the Siemens SL45 has to offer: there's also support for SMS, .infrared old wireless device, and spacious phone book.

As previously mentioned, the SL45 is also equipped with , as well as an integrated MP3 player. The latter of which is also the reason for why the 0 MB of internal memory, which initially appears spacious, is quickly stretched to its limits. The SL45 also comes with an and Multi Media Card (MMC) expansion slot located under its battery,a 16-128 MB card comes bundled in the sales package, more space for images audio and video files, less time for PC and communication cable for updating internal memory,

Performance

Audio quality on the SL45 was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 550 mAh Li-ion battery is rated for 4 hours talk time or 170 hours standby, which is quite low given the battery's theoretical capacity. Charge time is about 82 minutes.

Availability

The Siemens SL45 is now available throughout Europe in some language version.

Conclusion

Siemens's SL45 is yet another model in a range of phones from experienced users from Siemens. A new compact design and a reduced sized battery - which avoids rendering a negative impact on battery life - ensures a thin and light phone which is ergonomically comfortable.
