Siemens SL55 is announced in 2003

Design

Although it measures a distinctly petite 82 x 44 x 22 mm, and weighs 79 g, the Siemens SL55 looks even smaller than it is thanks to the sliding design it adopts. The 4096-color display is dim, not very bright and crisp, but is a far step above the very dim 256-color versions on even the most recent Siemens models. The display resolution 101 x 80 pixel is not very high but is normal for small phone like this.

The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker.
Lacking LEDs of any kind, however, the display - combined with vibration and audible alerts - is the SL55's only way of notifying users of new messages and missed calls. This is common for all Siemens handsets, requiring users to inconveniently have to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting rather than just glance at it.

Ergonomics

The SL55 lies well in ones hand.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent Siemens handsets. The plastic keypad has good placed keys, with the shrunken center keys for no apparent reason, make the phone harder to dial than necessary. And last, but not least, a five-way navigation buttons centered below the display.

Features

In the WAN department, the SL55 boasts healthy support for Tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz, as well as GPRS, SMS, and a range of applications such as WAP , Email client, Java MIDP 1.0, voice commands, a voice recorder, FAX/Modem, all of which laptop and handheld users will be pleased to learn is a breeze to utilize either by means of infrared old wireless device,GPRS support is the fastest way to download files with your mobile, and spacious phone book. and when it comes to storage the SL55 offers 1 MB which is dynamically shared between images and J2ME applications.

Performance

Audio quality on the SL55 was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 700 mAh Li-pol battery is rated for 5 hours talk time or 210 hours standby, which is quite low given the battery's theoretical capacity. Charge time is about 105 minutes.

Availability

The Siemens SL55 is now available throughout Europe in some language version.

Conclusion

Siemens's SL55 is yet another model in a range of phones from experienced users from Siemens. A new compact design and a reduced sized battery - which avoids rendering a negative impact on battery life - ensures a thin and light phone which is ergonomically comfortable.
