SonyEricsson K700 is announced in 2004

Design

The classic style of SonyEricsson design in areas of shape, colour and design, weighing in at 90 g and measuring 99 x 46 x 19 mm, the K700 is petite and relatively lightweight. The 16 bit - color display which is a little milky, dim and uneven, as well as having lower resolution than usual. The display resolution 176 x 220 pixel ideal for small and smart phone.

The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker. There is nice LEDs which notify users of new messages, active network and missed calls. This is not common for all SonyEricsson handsets and is not necessary to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting.

Ergonomics

The K700 is comfortable to hold and lies well in ones hand. While the big display a numerical keypad placed on a small space offers appropriately-spaced keys and are not pleasantly comfortable in use.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent SonyEricsson handsets. The plastic keypad has good placed keys, giving it a cheap feel while oddly designed buttons, with the shrunken center keys for no apparent reason, make the phone harder to dial than necessary.Unfortunately, the keypad of the SonyEricsson K700 emits excess noise, but on the bright side its keys have been comfortably spaced and sized. We're not entirely happy with the design of the navigational pad and its adjacent buttons, however, as distinguishing between these less easy than it ought to be.And last, but not least, a five-way joystick centered below the display.

Features

In the WAN department, the K700 boasts healthy support for Tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz, as well as GPRS, SMS, and a range of applications such as WAP , Email client, Java MIDP 2.0, 40-channels polyphony, voice commands, a voice recorder, FAX/Modem, Loud Speaker, all of which laptop and handheld users will be pleased to learn is a breeze to utilize either by means of infrared old wireless device, bluetooth high speed small range wireless device.GPRS support is the fastest way to download files with your mobile, and spacious phone book.

As previously mentioned, the K700 is also equipped with and audio/video recording, as well as an integrated MP3 player. The latter of which is also the reason for why the 41 MB of internal memory, which initially appears spacious, is quickly stretched to its limits. MP3 and MPEG4 are both formats which can be stored for playback on the SonyEricsson K700.

Unfortunately, neither Memory Stick Duo format or any other method of memory expansion is supported by the K700, meaning users find themselves drawn by the MP3 playback capabilities will also quickly - and repeatedly - drawn to their PC and USB cable for updating ones playlist.

Performance

Audio quality on the K700 was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 700 mAh Li-ion battery is rated for 7 hours talk time or 360 hours standby, which is very good for battery's theoretical capacity.Charge time is about 105 minutes.

Availability

The SonyEricsson K700 is now available throughout Europe in some language version.

Conclusion

SonyEricsson's K700 is yet another model in a range of phones from experienced users from SonyEricsson. A new compact design and a reduced sized battery - which avoids rendering a negative impact on battery life - ensures a thin and light phone which is ergonomically comfortable.
