Sony Z5 is announced in 2000
Design
Having gained fresh wind in its sails over the course of the past year or so, Sony has certainly made its mark on phone sale hit lists recently, the Sony Z5 is a very slender and compact handset at 88 x 49 x 22 mm and 82 grams. The black and white display is ideal for text, messages and simple pictures like logos and picture massages. The display resolution 96 x 72 pixel is not very high but is normal for small phone like this.
The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker. Lacking LEDs of any kind, however, the display - combined with vibration and audible alerts - is the Z5's only way of notifying users of new messages and missed calls. This is common for all Sony handsets, requiring users to inconveniently have to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting rather than just glance at it.
Ergonomics
The Z5 is comfortable to hold and lies well in ones hand.A numerical keypad placed below offers appropriately-spaced keys and are pleasantly comfortable in use.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent Sony handsets. The plastic keypad has good placed keys, with the comfortable center keys, make the phone easer to dial. Its keypad is as pleasing in use as its chassis is on the eyes: tactile feedback is excellent and all buttons are placed in a logical manner - quite a feat, considering Z5's knack for quirky keypads. And last, but not least, a five-way joystick centered below the display.
Features
Dual band 900/1800 MHz connectivity isn't all the Sony Z5 has to offer: there's also support for SMS, .and spacious phone book..
Performance
Audio quality on the Z5 was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 620 mAh Li-ion battery is rated for 2 hours talk time or 72 hours standby, which is quite low given the battery's theoretical capacity. Charge time is about 93 minutes.
Availability
The Sony Z5 is now available throughout Europe in some language version.
Conclusion
Sony's Z5 is yet another model in a range of phones from experienced users from Sony. A new compact design and a reduced sized battery - which avoids rendering a negative impact on battery life - ensures a thin and light phone which is ergonomically comfortable. |
